11th of January 2002: I wrote an article in the Dutch hiking magazine "Op Pad", titled "Top 3 Web Choice by Henk Nouws".

20th of January 2002: wow, pageviews are rocketing! It turns out the Trail Database is featured in Yahoo Picks.Thanks, guys. This proves non-commercial sites still stand out in the increasingly commercialized World Wide Web. Want to know how much I invested?

27th of January 2002: new hiking story: Graubünden in Switzerland. Including suggestions for hiking with children.

Have had a long brake. Added new links to the database in the months since September. The counter is now 126.451 visitors, which is a rise of over 50% since February this year.

I'm proud to offer you my story and pictures of Jotunheimen, Norway. I walked and camped in this unspoiled and wild area during one week in July. The report counts more photographs then in my previous reports. Most of you will gradually be able to buy more bandwith, so it shouldn't be a problem.

Added a photo reportage of a low tide crossing ("Wadlopen" in Dutch) from Holwerd to Ameland, the Netherlands.

Major restyling of the Trail Database website. Now, the country pages can be reached by clicking on the world map. In the future, all continents will be represented by a clickable map. Currently, only Europe is represented by such a map.

Added a trip report of a winter hike in the German Black Forest, Schwarzwald.

24th of January: 75.000st visitor

The database counts 2.500 pages and sites, 7000 records and 2000 search entries. Three years ago, the Trail Database was created.

Added the trip report of October 1999: the French Jura, a walk along the GR5 between Montbéliard and Morez.

12th of June: 50.000th visitor! 137 visitors a day.

1st of April: 40.000th visitor!

9th of January: 30.000th visitor!

Funny, great or just by change? The 31st of December the Trail Database counts 2000 URL's. I promise to work harder the next two millenia.

Major restyling. The loading time of the index page is significantly reduced. All the search functions are now available from the index page: the search engine itself, the handy links and the country pages, all functions are one click far.

My own walks are available from the indexpage as well, but a new Henk's Hikes page contains the photo index to my own hiking reports.

In the near future, the Trail Database will continue to grow. Also, I will pay special attention to the Handy Links section, a selection of links about gear, suppliers, technique and safety, and so on.

The Trail Database surpasses 1.500 URL‘s. Check up the Search Key page to get a list of all the valid entries in the Trail Database. Also, I welcome the 25.000th visitor this month.

Added a report of a hike in the Spanish Pyrenees, the GR11. We walked in the highest parts, around the Monte Perdido and the Vignemale.

I have restarted my quest for new sites and pages. Thanks to many people who email me, the database is growing continuously and staying up to date.

I added a report of my cross-country skiing in Germany: Bayerwaldloipe.

At the start of april, the Ttrail Database counts 863 URL's. Including the country pages, there are 1026 URL's in the database.

The searchable Trail Database is growing and growing, thanks to those among you who inform me about their hiking pages. You too, email me! Remember I started with 450 URL's in january? By now, I have 765 URL's and they open up 537 search keys! Recently I had a thorough search for Australian and South African trails. I admit, there is still one omission: the US. The US is well covered by others, I think. Try Hikenet for instance, but maybe there are still better pages.

Links by country reorganised: frames removed. Now you have a choice. Either the World Index Page (the front page of this website) or the Clickable Map of Europe. The country pages combine trail links with links to country based thematic home pages and general info.
